The editors of The Post Offices of Maine book and database have posted freshly updated versions of the data files and text,
now available for download. These files include cumulative addenda and errata corrections up to 23 March 2026. Please note -- when you go to download and print these files, your page count may vary slightly
from the numbers shown below.
TPOOM Table One -- All Maine -- PDF updated through 23 March 2026.
This includes all tabular data that appeared in the book with addenda and corrections as of 23 March 2026. It is sorted according to name of the post office, then the date opened.
This is presented as a PDF file that is designed to be printed in landscape orientation. Printing on single- sided sheets will take 156 sheets of paper.

All data, in original Excel file format. This is provided for folks who wish to work with the original spreadsheet. Notes about the format of the fields, including the mysterious 8digitdate field, can be provided. Possible uses are for creating your own detailed inventory system and/or keeping your data in a personal cloud-based storage account (e.g., Google Drive, Microsoft One Drive, etc.) so that you can access it from anywhere.

County Subsets
These files are drawn from Table Two, and are based on the current counties, not the historic counties. The data is sorted by the name of the town, then by the opening dates of the post offices. Like Table Two above, this enables you to see the data for all of the post offices in each town, sorted chronologically, town by town.

We've just posted newly revised pages for Bar Harbor,

PresqueIsle.
The pages for Bar Harbor and
Mount Desert reveal details that will clear up confusion about the locations of Long Pond and Otter Creek.
Did you know that the Town of Bar Harbor was once the Town of Eden?
The Bar Harbor page includes history of the usage of the name "Eden" in post office names.
2025 November 24
...and we're back
Thoroughly revised pages have been posted for
Amherst and Aurora in Hancock County, and
Appleton and Cushing in Knox County.
2025 September 4
New or thoroughly revised pages are now up for all of the towns in
Franklin County.
In the last days we have added
Strong, Temple,
Tim Pond Township,
Township 6 North of Weld (once the site of the mysterious Town of Berlin),
Weld and Wilton.
A new page is up for Seven Ponds Township in Franklin County. Seven Ponds was the location
of Beaver Pond and Big Island, two post offices that served camps of the Megantic Fish and Game Corporation
2025 August 27
Up now are two new postal history pages...one for Rangeley Plantation
and one for Salem Township.
Rangeley Plantation was the site of Bemis. Salem was a prosperous
community in its early days and its population peaked at 561 in 1840, but had dwindled to 78 in 1940. The post office closed on January 31, 1940; in 1945 the voters elected
to give up the organization of the town, allowing Salem to revert to the status of an unorganized township.
2025 August 12
Now online, a brand-new postal history page for Redington Township, which we have not previously covered. Redington is located in
Franklin County, just west of Carrabassett Valley, and is a ghost town where once there was a sawmill and small company town alongside the Sandy River and Rangeley Lakes Railroad.
2025 August 9
A new postal history page for the Town of Rangeley including its 14 post offices is now online.
Rangeley includes within its town boundaries such exotic locales as Barker, Haines Landing, Mingo Springs, Mooselookmeguntic, and others.
2025 August 5
Now online are freshly revised postal history pages for a couple more Franklin County
towns...New Vineyard, which includes
East Strong, and Phillips.
2025 July 27
...And we have just posted a new postal history page for the Town of New Sharon,
in Franklin County (but, once upon a time, in Kennebec County).
There is a new postal history page for Madrid Township now online. Once the home of three post offices, Madrid is a town near Phillips, in Franklin County, that gave up
its town goverment and became a deorganized township in 2000.

The new postal history page for the Town of Dedham, in Hancock County
is now online. The postal history page for the Town of Industry, in Franklin County, is now posted.
2025 March 23
A newly revised postal history page for Freeman Township is now online.
(In case you're wondering...it is north of Farmington, and just south of Kingfield.
Freeman disbanded its town government in 1938, and has been an unorganized township since then. Its last post office closed in 1902, although there were three post offices in operation in the 1890s.)

The Post Offices of Maine database -- aka TPOOM -- has been updated to reflect corrections and new information. The database files, updated as of 1 January, are now available for download
as Table One (all post offices, alpha order), Table Two (all post offices, sorted by county, town, and date opened)
as well as individual files for each of the 16 counties. All are available on the TPOOM download page.
